We are seeking an experienced Director of Payroll to lead high-volume payroll operations in a fast-paced, client-focused environment. This role is responsible for scaling payroll delivery through strong leadership, deep technical expertise, and advanced use of the UKG Ready platform.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring direct involvement in payroll processing, system configuration, and complex issue resolution. The ideal candidate brings experience in a payroll services or bureau environment and is comfortable operating in a client-facing, high-touch delivery model.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations & Compliance
- Lead multi-state, high-volume payroll processing for enterprise-level clients
- Ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness across all payroll cycles
- Oversee payroll tax setup, corrections, reconciliations, and reporting
- Manage year-end processes including W-2s and ACA reporting
- Oversee payroll funding, ACH processing, and related best practices
UKG Ready Platform Leadership
- Act as the subject matter expert for UKG Ready payroll operations
- Oversee system configuration, workflows, controls, and integrations
- Partner cross-functionally to optimize system performance and scalability
- Lead training and development to strengthen team capabilities in UKG Ready
Team Leadership & Development
- Build and develop a high-performing payroll team
- Establish training programs, documentation standards, and quality controls
- Mentor team members to strengthen technical expertise and leadership skills
Client & Escalation Management
- Support enterprise client relationships in a high-touch service environment
- Act as escalation point for complex payroll issues
- Provide expert guidance in client-facing conversations
Strategic Leadership
- Partner with cross-functional teams to improve operations and support growth
- Use data and reporting to drive decision-making and performance
- Identify and implement process improvements and system enhancements
Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive payroll leadership experience
- Experience in a payroll service, bureau, or client delivery environment REQUIRED
- Advanced, hands-on experience with UKG Ready REQUIRED
- Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, taxation, and reconciliations
- Experience managing high-volume, multi-state payrolls
- Experience with year-end processing (W-2, ACA, etc.)
- Strong leadership, communication, and client-facing skills
- Experience managing payroll funding/ACH processes preferred
